Trump Offers $5,000 to Every American, Contingent on Voting Correctly
A president promising $5,000 to every adult citizen is either the most effective campaign ad ever or a number someone wrote on a napkin — possibly both. Trump made the offer at the Republicans' first-ever midterm convention in Dallas, framing the payment as the "Trump dividend," available only if Republicans hold Congress in November. No funding source. No legal framework. Rough tab: $1 trillion or more. NPR noted the missing details; Washington Post wondered how much Trump actually cares about the GOP's fate either way. The money would have to be spent in the U.S., he added, which at least narrows it down.

Trump's War Timeline Runs Straight Through November
Iran just told the US it's ready to escalate, and Trump responded by explaining that the whole thing will probably sort itself out right after the midterms. Oil crossed $100 a barrel for the first time since July. Trump said prices will come down "right after the election" — a striking thing to say out loud, and reporters apparently just wrote it down. Bloomberg led with Iran's threat to intensify strikes on US territory. The Hill led with Trump's timeline. The Inquirer led with the oil number. Everyone's covering the same press conference; nobody's framing it the same way.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra Is Doing 96 Shows This Winter and They'd Like You to Know They're Generous About It
Thirty years in, Trans-Siberian Orchestra is doing the thing where a band that plays arenas decides to play more arenas. The 96-show winter tour hits 56 North American markets from late November through December 30, with two separate touring units running simultaneously so they can be in Green Bay and Indianapolis on the same night. TSO is also leaning into fan-friendly pricing and donating at least a dollar per ticket to local charities — a detail that showed up in every press release paragraph. Presales start September 10. The laser budget remains unannounced.
BRIEF
One pilot said "too fast." The other pilot said nothing.
For nearly two minutes before an Amazon cargo plane killed five people at Miami International Airport, one pilot kept warning the other they were coming in too fast — and got no consistent response. The plane touched down badly, briefly tried to go back up, then blew 1,300 feet past the end of the runway and hit a van. Five people in that van died. Three more are in critical condition. The Guardian noted Miami's airport lacks runway "arresting beds" — crushable safety systems already installed at 120+ airports nationwide. The NTSB has the cockpit recordings. The questions are just getting started.

Ashley Moody won't debate Angie Nixon, which is its own kind of answer
Declining a debate by saying "I'm not going to give a stage or any attention to that" is a choice — a very loud one. Three weeks out from her primary win, Nixon is running against both Moody and the $10 million in donations she says connect Moody to Trump, plus Moody's role in the Hope Florida controversy. Florida Politics led with the debate refusal. Florida Phoenix led with Nixon's campaign frame. Moody's non-answer is now the story either way, which is probably not what her team was going for.
